First Things First
When I was a kid (a LONG time ago) there was a song we sang at church that went, “Read your Bible, pray every day, pray every day, pray every day. Read your Bible, pray every day, and you’ll grow, grow, grow.” Want to see the most adorable kids? You can hear the song if you click here.
But is growing in your faith really that simple? Yes and No.
Jesus talks in the Bible about our need for living water, which is the Holy Spirit (read John 7:37-39). All living things need water to grow; and every time we pray or read our Bible it’s like God pouring living water from His Spirit into ours.
Now think of a swamp – it’s water that is trapped with nowhere to go. If we are only focused on filling ourselves up with God, but we don’t ever pour out by serving others or telling people about Jesus, then we are soon going to be like that swamp. We will find we’re only focused only on ourselves, which isn’t good.
Pour It Out
If you can make it a habit to talk to God in prayer and to learn who He is by reading the Bible, then you balance that with a place to pour out all that you are learning - you’ll see your faith growing!
A great place to do this is by connecting with a church and youth group. You’ll be able to learn and worship with others, and also find ways to share ideas for serving and reaching out. You are part of His Church family, so make sure you find a place that can help you live out all the great things He created you to do!
Work It Out
Faith is like a muscle - the more you use it, and challenge yourself to new things, the bigger it will grow. God has awesome plans for you, so don’t be afraid if you feel like God is asking you to do something crazy. He’s with you! It just means that your faith muscle is about to get a great work out! And you know what? You’ll see good results in your life, and in the lives of those around you too.
